Availability:
With prior notice, I am able to meet with students during sets 1, 4 and 7 for extra help or questions. Because I coach modified basketball, I am currently not available to stay after school. However, once the season is complete, I will be available a few days a week. If you plan on staying after school for help, please provide one full day’s notice so that I may check my schedule for any conflicts.
Parents may feel free to call us at 624-7100, or to e-mail us via the school’s web site. I check my e-mail daily and will return your message as soon as possible. |
Organization:
Because you will have final exams in June, it is critical that you keep your school materials organized and save important papers. Be sure to keep:
- all major tests and classroom notes
- all long-term writing assignments completed in English class
Each of your teachers has a spot in the classroom where students may file paperwork, if desired. It is up to you whether you will use a home system or our classroom folders, but it is important that a system be used and maintained. |
Grading policies:
To enhance our ability to function as a unified team, we will each be operating on a “points” system, and we will not have weighted categories. For example, a homework assignment may be worth 5 points, while a long-term project, writing assignment or test may be worth 200 points. This should make the grading consistent in all classes, and should allow the students to keep a running tally of their grades in each class, simply by adding the points they have earned and dividing by the number of points possible. |
Homework:
Homework is the practice of skills and material learned in class. Students will be given full credit for homework, as long as it is in on time and shows obvious time and effort. Daily homework assignments will be posted in the room, as well as on this web page.
Students have a responsibility to themselves and their classmates to come prepared with work on time and done to the best of their ability, or else the whole class feels the “backwards pull” of the unprepared students. Late assignments will earn only half credit. Homework that does not meet grade-level quality expectations will have points deducted by the teacher.
Students ARE expected to make up all work due to any absences that they may have from school. Students will have the number of days they have been absent to complete assignments before late penalties will then be applied. Parents, please call the office to request missing work for your child due to absence. |
Current Events:
Students are encouraged to bring in news or magazine articles that relate to the unit we are studying at that time. Students may earn extra credit in each of their classes if they bring in an article. |
