Policies and Procedures

Grading Policy
50%   Tests
25%   Quizzes
10%    Laboratory Work
10%    Homework
 5%    Notebook

Attendance
Students will be in class on time each day and come prepared with all required materials and completed assignments.  Late students MUST bring a pass.  Absent students are expected to ask for missed work and make up required assignments.  Students anticipating a planned absence (e.g. college visit, field trip, etc.) are expected to request work before they leave and return with assignments completed to the best of their ability.

Assignments
Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date.  They are to be done neatly and any special directions followed carefully.  Daily assignments/homework represent a percentage of a student’s overall grade.

Tests/Quizzes
Quizzes and tests will be given on a regular basis, typically at the end of major blocks/units of work.

Notebook
Each student will maintain a notebook in good order.  It will contain handouts, worksheets, notes, quizzes, tests, grade printouts, etc.  The notebook will be graded at least once each quarter.

Laboratory Work
The New York State Board of Regents requires 30 hours of satisfactory and documented laboratory work in order to be eligible to take the final Regents Chemistry exam.

Labs will be collected every two weeks.

Late labs will be result in a grade reduction.

Class Attitude
In general, students who have a positive attitude, ask questions, use their chemistry tools, complete assignments, and try to work cooperatively with the teacher and the rest of the class are successful.  Respect yourself and your right to learn.  Respect your classmates and their right to learn.  Respect your materials and the school’s facilities.  Respect your teacher and expect her to respect you in return.
