Library Media Center Policies and Procedures
The Middle Schools’ Library Media Center is available to both students and staff for a variety of resources and services. Students may use the library, both after school and during study hall, for independent study and research, reader’s advisory, and pleasure reading. They also have the opportunity to check out books, audio books, magazines, computers and equipment. Students will visit the library with their classes for instruction on a number of library skills and for research specific to class projects. The library’s highest priority is meeting the research and reading needs of students.
Staff
Miss Alicia DiFranco, library media specialist
Mrs. Bonnie Bailey, library paraprofessional
Hours
The library is open from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm daily. On rare occasions the library may need to close to accommodate testing, meetings, or large group instruction. Notification of the library’s closure will be made as early as possible so that students can adjust their schedules accordingly.
Circulation
- Books, audio books and magazines may be checked out of the library for a two week period. Overdue notices will be distributed to homerooms weekly as a reminder for students to either return or renew these items.
- Equipment such as jump drives, digital cameras, and video cameras have a circulation period of one day. All equipment must be returned to the library before homeroom on the day after checkout. Students wishing to borrow a video camera must have an Agreement for Equipment Loan form signed by both a parent/guardian and the teacher assigning the project for which the camera is needed.
- Laptops may be checked out of the library media center for both in school and overnight use. Students must present a pass signed by a teacher in order to sign a laptop out of the library. In order to take a laptop home, students must have a Laptop Sign-out Participation form and an Acceptable Use Policy signed and on file with the school. Also, parents of students wishing to check out a laptop overnight must attend a laptop orientation. Students must also obtain a pass from a teacher verifying their need to take a laptop home to complete an assignment. Laptops borrowed for overnight use are due back to library before homeroom on the following day. Failure to return laptops at this time as well as failure to comply with acceptable use policy will result in suspension of computer privileges.
Passes/Sign in
Students must come to the library media center prepared to show a pass signed by their teacher. All students must sign in at the front desk when entering the library. Before leaving, students must sign out of the library as well as have their pass signed to return to class/study hall. Students may not leave the library at any time without permission from either Miss DiFranco or Mrs. Bailey.
Behavior
Students utilizing the library are expected to come prepared to work productively and with respect for those reading and working around them. Excessive noise or poor behavior may result in limited use of the library media center.
We look forward to seeing you in the library media center! |
